NLP for Kids – Anxiety

Anxiety is something most of us have experienced at least once in our life.

Here are some ideas how to deal with it when it comes to children.

Being a NLP coach I am using lots of NLP techniques but I simply love using metaphors also.

So when I use metaphors I present life as a journey.

A journey is a common metaphor for life as it reminds us that the destination is not our only goal. Like with any form of a journey, there are times when the roads are straight (life is on an even keel) and times when they are winding. There are ups and downs and potholes along the way. And there are often wonderful surprises and fun discoveries that you would never have experienced if it wasn’t for the route you chose.

So, instead of focusing on the representation of the current situation, we start looking for the positive aspects using hide-and-seek format. The positive aspects are hidden so we start our discovery journey to reveal them.

Also, I find incredibly useful the 5-4-3-2-1 – Grounding Exercise.
The 54321 game is a common sensory awareness grounding exercise that many find a helpful tool to relax or get through difficult moments.


  1. Describe 5 things you see in the room.
  2. Name 4 things you can feel
  3. Name 3 things you hear right now
  4. Name 2 things you can smell right now
  5. Name 1 good thing about yourself

This exercise helps us move our focus from the brain into our body.
